A documentary following a 29 year old Nicaraguan woman and her family, as she embarks on a journey of recovery after suffering from a major stroke in 2020. Pencona is a story of healing, time, and the preciousness of life.
Sofia Hurtado is a Producer/Actor originally from Nicaragua. She is a Founder and Artistic Director of Third Culture Theatre, whose mission is to bring empowerment to underrepresented voices through creative expression. Previous producing credits include, The Tragic Ecstasy of Girlhood (play) in partnership with HBO at The Greenway Court Theatre, Glimmer (short film) featuring Rosario Dawson and notable cinematographer Radan Popovic, and We Are Proud to Present… (play) which was named top 10 plays to watch in Los Angeles by Stage Raw. She currently works as a Production Coordinator on SONY’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Diante Singley is a writer and director from Los Angeles whose films tackle issues of race, identity and economic status. After graduating from Stanford University, he was awarded Best New Filmmaker at the San Francisco Black Film Festival. Diante was a directing fellow for Film Independent through their Project Involve program and recently wrapped his film HOLLOW which was shot in South Africa but remotely directed from Los Angeles due to COVID-19. He also won the 2022 Los Angeles Frieze Film Award for GREYHOUND, which is inspired by his own life.
